History of Tailoring
During the Middle Ages clothing had been regarded as a means of concealing the body. But with the Renaissance came the accentuation of the human form. The loose robe, that standard uniform of the medieval period so easily constructed from a single piece or two of cloth, was shortened and tightened, and eventually cut, pieced, and sewn together in attempts to bring into prominence the contours of the human form. This was the birth of tailoring and, in fact, of fashion.
These attempts at re-constructing the human body in fabric called for a growing expert skill and division of labor. Soon the cutter (the one who makes the pattern) and tailor (the one who does the sewing) joined other craftsmen as important members of the community.

Neil Doveton expresses his emotions about the DINSTINCTIVE man's show as he states; "I could not hide my joy as Distinctive Man presented its collection rich with the fusion of heritage and modernity. Simple classic suits, overcoats and tailored trousers, in a palette of earthy tones of a rain-muddied day, paired pleasingly with leopard print slim-fitting t-shirts and vests. Clear-Sky blue complimented the earthiness of the range, a jacket and waistcoat in such and worn with dark trousers, a notable audience favourite. The traditional Zulu’ tyre sandal” with its identifiable geometric cut-out pattern, updated in more comfortable materials, was a befitting shoe for the collection and our African climate, while leopard print pocket squares showed careful consideration to detail by the designers. In the finale a Zulu chief walked the runway in traditional attire and was saluted by westernised warriors, a coat placed over his shoulders symbolising the fusion of fashion of eras past and present."

ReplyDeleteIts all about being comfortable in one's own skin, because once you feel good you look good and if you look good you do good.
DeleteI don't quite enjoy reading this blog the vocabulary is pritty technical and it takes a while to get to the point with that being said fashion is quite intresting and i enjoy learning about it's history but what is the argument being raised here.
ReplyDeleteThe point here is creating awareness about tailor-made suits amd the journey that took place rom the begining todate. It is a revolutionary movement that has stood the test of time and if we are doing it justice
